Energy independenceBiodiesel is manufactured from sustainable, locally grown crops, reducing our need to buy foreign oil. Biodiesel helps mitigate global warmingOilseed plants, like canola, remove CO2 - a greenhouse gas - from the atmosphere. Through photosynthesis, the canola plant converts the gas into the oil used to make biodiesel. When biodiesel is burned, CO2 is released back into the atmosphere in a cycle resulting in no net increase in atmospheric CO2. Biodiesel also has the highest energy balance of any transportation fuel: for each unit of fossil fuel energy used in its manufacture, biodiesel provides 3.2 units of energy.
