Good public policy
Good for private enterprise
More than half our country's demand for petroleum is supplied from foreign sources. Sustainable, locally available fuel sources can protect us from dependence on foreign oil, while boosting local economies and improving our air quality.
Government at every level has increasingly recognized the strategic importance of biodiesel as a contributor to achieving energy independence and meeting our nation's current and future demand for renewable transportation fuel.
Federal, State and local governments continue to show support for the biodiesel industry:
U.S. Government policy supports development and use of biodiesel:
- $1 per gallon federal tax incentive for blended biodiesel
Washington State policy supports development and use of biodiesel:
- Renewable Fuels Standard: 2% biodiesel use by 2008, increasing to 5% when sufficient feedstock is produced in-state
- All Washington State vessels, vehicles, and construction equipment will use a minimum B20 blend by June 1, 2009
- 100% renewable fuel use by state and local public fleet vehicles by 2015 to the extent practical
- 20% reduction on fuel imported into the state by 2020
- Washington State Support: $3.3 million low interest loan (Energy Freedom Loan Program) and $1 million grant/low interest loan (CERB) to the Port of Warden to support the Washington Biodiesel project
- Tax Incentives for producers of biodiesel
